The National // “Exile Vilify” from the official soundtrack to videogame Portal 2

The National are something special. I know it, you know it, we all know it. The National somehow manage to get you ‘right here’ with almost every song of theirs. They did it to me with Bloodbuzz Ohio, Slow Show and Fake Empire and they just did it again with Exile Vilify.

The unmistakable baritone of of Matt Beringer begins a few bars after the beautifully simple piano intro that carries on throughout. It is beautiful, as strings and horns join together it just stops short of delivering the climax too soon. And when it just seems as if the strings are preparing for that climax, The National ends Exile Vilify leaving us wanting more from this fantastic band. If this is any indication of whats to come from The National, fans should be excited and hopefully through its inclusion in the release of Portal 2, those fans will be growing in number.
