Dry The River: “Lions Den (Live at Glastonbury)” (@drytheriver)

At this years Glastonbury, I managed to catch the last fifteen minutes of Dry The River’s set at the John Peel Stage. Just outside the tent I heard them finishing off Bible Belt and then they launched into New Cemetery (the two songs I know really well from the band). I was pretty happy to catch those songs and then I was blown away by their closing song. Starting off slow and calm it then escalated into an absolute show stopper and the perfect way to close their set. I had no idea what the song was, all I knew was that it was in my head for the rest of the weekend. After they had finished, the guy introducing all the acts on the stage said he had just had a “glastonbury moment” with that last song, me and my friend had to agree as well. I had no idea what the song was so I asked on twitter, and Dry The River very nicely replied and let me know it was Lions Den. Thank you to Dry The River for one of my favourite moments of the weekend.

Countdown to GLASTONBURY: 10 days to go

Sometimes the iTunes free single of the right is SO good, you start to remember why you go back and check every week in hope of a repeat performance. More often than not, the standard isn’t kept. Though one time they did have Bon Iver’s Skinny Love and last autumn they had Warpaint’s Undertow.

Around since 2004, this LA band has had a few line up changes with past members including actress Shannyn Sossaman (Knight’s Tale) and Red Hot Chili Pepper’s guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. The four piece now consist of Emily Kokal, Theresa Wayman, Jenny Lee Lindberg and Stella Mozgowa. Undertow is a fantastic indie piece that starts off slow and then builds with layering vocals into a great breakdown. Be sure to check them out at this year’s festival.

Countdown to GLASTONBURY: 15 days to go

Next up on our countdown to this year’s Glastonbury festival is Cold War Kids. We first fell in love with the band through Hang Me Up To Dry. Since then we’ve fallen in love over and over with each album. We can’t wait to see them live and judging from live performances on youtube, they will not disappoint. Here’s some of the ones we’re very excited to see.

Glastonbury Countdown: 17 days to go

Chances even if you’re not familiar with the name The EELs, you’re going to be at least familiar with a few of their songs. They’ve been featured on TV and film for the last ten years or so. You might recognise Mr. E’s Beautiful Blues from Road Trip, Fresh Feeling from Scrubs and Chuck, Flyswatter from Desperate Housewives, My Beloved Monster from Shrek, Your Lucky Day In Hell from Scream 2 and the list could go on. One of those great 1990s alternative indie rock bands like Cake and Barenaked Ladies, The EELs are still going strong and to our utter delight playing Sunday night at Glastonbury.

Countdown to GLASTONBURY: 20 days to go

In around three weeks we will be setting off for Glastonbury and we couldn’t be more excited about it. In celebration of the arrival of the best festival of the summer we will doing a countdown until the festival. Every day we will try and post up a song from one of the MANY bands and artists that we are excited to see (clashes permitting).

Let’s kick things off with Beyonce. Mr. Beyonce (Jay-Z) went down a treat at Glastonbury ‘08, we were there. Now its the other half of that power couple to wow the crowds and wow them she will. Beyonce will be for some a guilty pleasure, much like Shakira last year who turned out to be awesome. And I mean can’t you just imagine how amazing Crazy In Love is going to sound in that field. So here is Crazy In Love, oh man cannot wait for this!
