Mash Up: Rihanna vs Miike Snow “Stay/Animal (Jessica Rotter Cover)”

Didn’t realise how well these songs go together but now I hear it, I can’t believe I didn’t hear it before. Jessica Rotter has put together Rihanna’s moving “Stay” with Miike Snow’s upbeat “Animal” and it works perfectly. (It doesn’t hurt that Jessica and her friend Emily Colombier’s voices are amazing together too).

My jaw just dropped at 3.26…

Alaska King: “Stingy Jehovah What No X For Me”

Back in 2012, a producer called Mikey Mike conned his way onto Rihanna’s Apologetic album by pretending to be a famous female porn star, can’t knock a man’s hustle. Mikey Mike was also an artist in his own right with the brilliant Chainsaw Love EP, which introduced us to the quirky high energy style and lazily entertaining delivery which I quickly came to love (Particularly on tracks like “Girlfriend” and “If I Aint Stopped Loving You By Now”). Check out an interview I did with the man here

But things and names change, Mikey Mike is now Alaska King, giving us the intriguing kind of out there video for new one “Stingy Jehovah What No X For Me”. It’s funny, it’s poignant and it’s good.

Mikky Ekko: “Stay (Demo Version)”

Before Rihanna made it an worldwide smash, emerging singer/songwriter Mikky Ekko recorded a demo version of a song he wrote called “Stay”. The original is much less produced and slick as Rihanna’s, but the emotion and vulnerability in Ekko’s voice is raw and effective.

Just goes to show, at its core a great song will always be a great song.

Remix Baby: Rihanna “If Its Lovin’ That You Want (BlackedOut Remix)”

(via Prefix Mag)

This is actually one of my all time favourite Rihanna songs. I realise saying ‘all time’ about such a contemporary artist can seem a bit weird but that girl has been prolific to say the least!

Anyway, this remix breathes some fresh cool life into this summery jam.

disCOVER: Juveniles “Stay (Rihanna Cover)”

God, this song is kinda powerful. The Rihanna/Micky Ekko version is powerful, but this stripped, organic and acoustic one by Juveniles is just so simple and sweet while staying powerful. Amazing.
