Way back when in 2011 I started listening to a band from Leeds called Fossil Collective and their brilliant “Without A Fight” from their Honey Slides EP and Let It Go EP. The boys have been busy since then touring with up and coming indie folk acts Benjamin Francis Leftwich and shows coming up with The Civil Wars and The Lumineers- so big things.

The duo are back with their new EP On & On and it is just as beautiful as to be expected mixing folk indie with modern drum beats here and there for a wonderful crossover.

Indie folk duo, The Civil Wars, have been on a slow burner since 2008. Meeting in a singer/songwriter session in Nashville, TN, Joy Williams and John Paul White came together to form The Civil Wars. Gaining national exposure through an opportune placement of Poison and Wine in the maker and breaker of artists, Grey’s Anatomy, they topped plenty of best of lists in 2010. Now it’s 2011 and they’ve just released their anticipated debut album Barton Hollow. 

The Civil Wars have a great bluegrass, indie, folk, bluesy sound that will be sure to impress.

You can download Live at Eddie’s Attic, a recording of only their second show here, that got over 100’000 downloads (only their second show??) They have also done a whole host of fantastic covers including Leonard Cohen, The Jackson 5, Sade, Michael Jackson and Smashing Pumpkins.
