The Weeknd: “Kiss Land”

Here is the title track for The Weeknd’s new album Kiss Land and as good as you expected it would be. Its withdrawn, lovelorn, dark, ominous, hazy and turns on its head in the middle. With three mixtapes worth of music already, a proper full length debut album from Abel Tresfaye and The Weeknd crew is very exciting.

French Montana: “Gifted ft. The Weeknd”

image

(via Pretty Much Amazing)

Coming off of a snippet of new Weeknd material, “John Carpenter” from the upcoming Kiss Land, this guest spot on a French Montana track just dropped. The first minute or so is pure Tresfaye/Weeknd and when French Montana turns up it feels like he’s the guest…

“Gifted” appears on French Montana’s new album out May 21st. The Weeknd’s Kiss Land is due later this year.

Ricky Hil: “Nomads ft. The Weeknd”

Ricky Hil is the son of renowned American fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, a brand known for its clean cut and preppy bright All-American looks. The apple does appear to fall far from the tree sometimes and Ricky Hil makes no apologies. The tatted up son of a mogul teams up with The Weeknd for this no holds barred sensual drugged up track, with Hil’s raspy vocals complimenting Abel Tresfaye’s sweet and depraved lilt.

“Nomads” is from the really rather good debut album SLYDD, which you can stream over at Noisey.

disCOVER: Saskatchewan “Lost Without You (Robin Thicke Cover)”

Way back around a year ago Florida band Saskatchewan dropped an amazing cover of The Weeknd’s “The Morning” that turned the original all colours of chillwave and dream pop. Now they’ve turned their attentions to Robin Thicke’s smooth and silky R&B jam “Lost Without You”. A faithful interpretation that add light and dreamy synths that make it that little bit more silky smooth… if possible.

Check out their bandcamp for some original material.

VIDEO: The Weeknd “The Zone ft. Drake”

If memory serves screenshots and stills have been floating around about this video for nearly a year, right around the time the whole co-sign business was happening between OVO and XO. To increase the hype for The Weeknd’s Trilogy debut, they’ve dropped the video for their too cool for school track with Drake, “The Zone” directed by The Weeknd’s own Abel Tresfaye. Enjoy.

The Weeknd: “Twenty-Eight”

The Weeknd is dropping his 3-mixtape series all official-like as Trilogy  on November 13. Now, a lot of people are going to think twice about forking out cash for tracks that they’ve already got but The Weeknd have tinkered around with the production of some of our faves while also adding a few previously unreleased tracks, like “Twenty-Eight”.

Pre-order Trilogy here for when it drops on November 13.

A.Chal: “Touch Me Like I’m Famous”

Late night sounds from LA producer A.Chal “Touch Me Like I’m Famous” from the upcoming EP Ballroom Riots. Somewhat menacing, the track has that debauchery tinged swag that did it for The Weeknd, so try out A.Chal.

Johnny Rain: “LLWH”

Drake, The-Dream, Frank Ocean and The Weeknd have helped turn R&B on its head and paved the way for experimentation in the genre, many artists coming up are copycats but sometimes someone comes along that can do it in their ownright and that’s Johnny Rain.

“LLWH” showcases The Weeknd-esque epic production and hard edged sing along vocals a la Drake that rain comfortably uses.
