disCOVER: Gorgon City “Doing It Wrong (Drake Cover)”

Gorgon City have had quite the year so far with hits like “Ready For Your Love” making major noise and their critically acclaimed debut album Sirens. Here’s their take on Drake’s soulful “Doing It Wrong” with vocals from LIV. They’ve turned around the song into an uptempo deep house cut, it’s good but man it’s missing that Stevie Wonder harmonica something terrible.

Remix Baby: Parra for Cuva ft. Annie Naklab “Wicked Games (Tom Misch Remix)”

So this is a remix, by Tom Misch, of a Parra for Cuva ft. Annie Naklab cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Games”. Got it?

All you really need to know is that this is a rather good funk house remix of this cover that sounds like a more pepped up London Grammar or The xx with Sia esque vocals from Annie Naklab and Clean Bandit strings. Get involved.

disCOVER: Angus & Julia Stone “Chandelier (Sia Cover)”

Brother and sister duo did a session for Naked Noise recently and covered fellow Australian Sia’s amazing “Chandelier”. Although Julia Stone doesn’t try to make those exquisite high notes, the cover is just as good in its own right and completely transforms it into something that could sit comfortably into the Angus & Julia Stone back catalogue and if that isn’t the sign of incredible artists then what is?

disCOVER: Autograf “One (Swedish House Mafia Cover)”

This is such an interesting cover of the big EDM track featuring Pharrell from Swedish House Mafia. Autograf completely strip it back, add some chilled out vibes, some breathy Imogen Heap-esque vocals and a real twist on the original.

Check out their other remixes here including this Marvin Gaye one.

Charli XCX: “I Want Candy”

This is bloody brilliant.

Charli XCX is having a helluva 2014 and it is SO deserved for the 21 year old having been slogging away at this whole pop star thing for absolutely ages, and she’s pretty much real deal. Check out this amazing cover of the classic “I Want Candy” Charli did for Transmitter and once you’ve watched it for her, watch it a second time for them drums, my oh my.

disCOVER: Laura Welsh “Bound (Kanye West Cover)”

You know, “Bound 2” is a rather beautiful song if you just leave it at the hook and that’s what Laura Welsh has done, adding some of her own verses to truly flesh this out as a bonafide ballad.

disCOVER: Years and Years “Breathe (Blu Cantrell Cover)”

Years and Years impressed with “Real" earlier this year and then again with "Take Shelter" that had a euro pop/house music kind of vibe. They fit in with that Disclosure/Joel Compass/The Neighbourhood/MNEK vibe that’s very popular right now and they’ve cemented this with their take on that early 00s rnb/hip hop JAM "Breathe" by legends Blu Cantrell feat. Sean Paul.

Holy Ghost!: “Okay”

I’ve found a new synth pop outfit to add to my favourites (Ghost Beach, Magic Man, Strange Talk) and it is Brooklyn duo Holy Ghost! They make fun summer synth pop and basically I’m a fan, especially of this one “Okay”.

"Okay" comes from the album Dynamics, info here. They’ve also done a sweet cover of Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home”.

disCOVER: Joseph and The Bird “How Will I Know (Whitney Houston Cover)”

You might have seen Sam Smith’s ballad cover of “How Will I Know” and that was rather good. You know what also is rather good? This cover by Joseph and The Bird, who give a bit of an xx, AlunaGeorge, James Blake spin on it.

disCOVER: Penguin Prison “All Night Long (Lionel Ritchie Cover)”

Lionel Ritchie’s “All Night Long” is one of my favourite songs to get down and sing along to (those backing ‘all nights’ in the chorus kill me). Penguin Prison’s cover is pretty faithful, keeping that afro pop funk all the way through with maybe a few more synths and electro pop swing.

This is bloody brilliant.
