disCOVER: Years and Years “Breathe (Blu Cantrell Cover)”

Years and Years impressed with “Real" earlier this year and then again with "Take Shelter" that had a euro pop/house music kind of vibe. They fit in with that Disclosure/Joel Compass/The Neighbourhood/MNEK vibe that’s very popular right now and they’ve cemented this with their take on that early 00s rnb/hip hop JAM "Breathe" by legends Blu Cantrell feat. Sean Paul.

Holy Ghost!: “Okay”

I’ve found a new synth pop outfit to add to my favourites (Ghost Beach, Magic Man, Strange Talk) and it is Brooklyn duo Holy Ghost! They make fun summer synth pop and basically I’m a fan, especially of this one “Okay”.

"Okay" comes from the album Dynamics, info here. They’ve also done a sweet cover of Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home”.

disCOVER: Joseph and The Bird “How Will I Know (Whitney Houston Cover)”

You might have seen Sam Smith’s ballad cover of “How Will I Know” and that was rather good. You know what also is rather good? This cover by Joseph and The Bird, who give a bit of an xx, AlunaGeorge, James Blake spin on it.

disCOVER: Penguin Prison “All Night Long (Lionel Ritchie Cover)”

Lionel Ritchie’s “All Night Long” is one of my favourite songs to get down and sing along to (those backing ‘all nights’ in the chorus kill me). Penguin Prison’s cover is pretty faithful, keeping that afro pop funk all the way through with maybe a few more synths and electro pop swing.

This is bloody brilliant.

disCOVER: Lucius “Everybody Wants To Rule The World (Tears For Fears Cover)”

Want a chillwave dream pop version of Tears For Fears “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”? Thought so, luckily Lucius has one for you. A B side from their Genevieve 7” Vinyl (which is out now), the cover is dreamy, ethereal and brilliant.

Man, that bridge/middle 8 gets me every time…

Check out the A side “Genevievie” here, its rather good.

disCOVER: Wild Cub “Crazy In Love (Beyoncé Cover for The A.V. Club’s Undercover Sessions)”

I mean, no one can come close to the original but Wild Cub at least give it a pretty damn good try. Stripped back with a mellow electro pop vibe.

Check out other Wild Cub covers we’ve featured of CHVRCHES and Drake.

disCOVER: Sam Smith “How Will I Know (Whitney Houston Cover)”

Is there anything this boy touches that doesn’t turn to gold? I mean his voice is liquid gold personified, for real and this cover of Whitney Houston’s dance pop classic “How Will I Know” confirms this by transforming it into an incredibly ballad sung beautifully by 2014’s Golden Boy.

disCOVER: Chloe Howl “Señorita (Justin Timberlake Cover)”

I’ve seen the name Chloe Howl around a lot but this is the first time I’ve heard anything and wow can that girl sing. Here’s her take on JT’s brilliant “Señorita”- still a bonafide jam.

disCOVER: Kanye West “Bound 2 (Mausi Cover)”

Last month I featured Mausi’s amazing poolside banger “My Friend Has A Swimming Pool”, this month we’re listening to their chill wave a bit dancey take on Ye’s “Bound 2”. Gloriously different.

Check out this Magician remix of “My Friend Has A Swimming Pool”, its a bit Disclosure esque.

disCOVER: Thief “Cry Me A River (Justin Timberlake Cover)”

It’s nearly the weekend so lets look forward to that with this minimalistic electronic cover of JT’s seminal “Cry Me A River” from Thief. The Aussie alt pop artist adds big horns and claps to strip back the ultimate break up but im doing good song.

From the upcoming Closer EP released this week.
