disCOVER: KAIROS “Street Lights (Kanye West Cover)”

If you played someone Kanye West’s “Street Lights” without telling them who it was by I think they wouldn’t be able to guess it was by the same person who made, let’s say, “New Slaves” or “I Am A God”. It was a light surprise amidst the heartbreak on 808s but was still a highlight of the album, well at least for me.

Now KAIROS has come along and emphasised the optimism and hope in “Street Lights” into this delightfully simple acoustic blend. Amazing.

disCOVER: Dana Williams “Dreams ft. Leighton Meester (Fleetwood Mac Cover)”

This is a pretty damn good acoustic cover from Dana Williams and Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester.

Them harmonies though.

disCOVER: Thieves Like Us “Sutphin Boulevard (Blood Orange Cover)”

"Sutphin Boulevard" is up there as one of my favourite songs. It is one of the most effortlessly cool sounding modern day tracks and well, I don’t know, its just incredible and Thieves Like Us’ cover is pretty damn good too. Sounding as if its been put through a hazy kind of filter on the hottest day of the year AKA it sounds amazing.

disCOVER: Foxes “Happy (Pharrell Cover)”

Whoever it was that thought that Pharrell’s cover would go perfectly over Massive Attacks’s “Teardrop” and sung by Foxes is a genius.

JoJo: “Take Me Home”

Phil Collins never sounded so good.

To celebrate getting out of her record contract, JoJo dropped a new EP #LoveJo as a thank you to the fans for sticking by her all the way through, from the early days to now. And what a thank you it is, as the EP teases whats to come from JoJo now she is finally free to get out the music that she’s been wanting to for the last couple years.

On “Take Me Home”, JoJo flips the Phil Collins jam and effortlessly glides all over it with vocal acrobatics worthy of Queen Bey.

Mr Little Jeans: “Good Mistake”

I’ve been keeping an ear out for Mr Little Jeans ever since I heard their brilliant cover of Arcade Fire’s “The Suburbs”, so when this arrived in my inbox I was excited about what I was going to find… and “Good Mistake” does not let down. Immediately I love that opening drum beat and that kind of distorted guitar snippet, that reminds me of INXS ‘Need You Tonight and when the off kilter synths kick in alongside the vocals everything just comes together very nicely for this quirky off centre synth pop track.

"Good Mistake" is from the EP of the same name, and not only is “The Suburbs” on it, there is also a weirdly brilliant use of TLC’s “Waterfalls”. Mr Little Jeans also announced an upcoming album Pocketknife, out March 25.

Seriously though, this EP is well worth checking out, “Back To The Start" is a pulsating dark ethereal track.

Remix Baby: Beyoncé “Drunk In Love (The Weeknd Remix)”

If anyone knows what its like to be a little hazy in love, its The Weeknd. Abel Tresfaye puts his sultry stamp over the already sexy track, adding that Weeknd flavour - dirty, hazy drug fuelled night time.

Oh and if you haven’t checked out the Kanye West remix, do that too.

disCOVER: MØ “Say You’ll Be There (Spice Girls Cover)”

Wow. Grab the free download, trust me on this one.

disCOVER: London Grammar “Pure Shores (All Saints Cover)”

London Grammar sure know their way around a cover.

disCOVER: Vancouver Sleep Clinic & GXNXVS “Hold On, We’re Going Home (Drake Cover)”

There’s been a fair few covers of Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” but there hasn’t been one quite like this one from Vancouver Sleep Clinic. The 17 year old from Brisbane along with GXNXVS turn the effortlessly smooth r&b throwback into a mournful post r&b spectacle with shades of Justin Vernon, James Blake, Sampha, Autre Ne Veut, Active Child and Shy Girls all rolled into this rather beautiful cover.

Also check out this cover/remix of Mario’s “Let Me Love You” from GXNXVS and CVIRO
