Laura Marling: “Master Hunter”

Every time I listen to Laura Marling and then write about Laura Marling I have to mention that this girl is STILL only 23 years old. It astounds me everytime, I really should get used to it.

“Master Hunter” is a big acoustic guitar picking song that Marlings vocals mesh with effortlessly. The opening lines reminded me so much of Fiona Apple and if this was over a piano the comparison would be uncanny. But it’s not, its completely Marling.

“Master Hunter” and “Where Can I Go” are both from the upcoming album Once I Was An Eagle out May 27.

Mumford & Sons Daytrotter Session

Mumford & Sons sophomore album Babel is huge and also brilliant, the boys stopped by Daytrotter to record a session featuring tracks from the new album, covers including Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan and some old favourites including one of my personal favourites “Not in Nottingham”.

Check out the whole session here.

Mumford & Sons: “I Will Wait”

The first time I heard Mumford & Sons was in a club in Leicester after spending a year in America. During that year, Mumford & Sons had gotten huge in the UK but hadn’t made it over to the US yet so I was in a club thinking why the hell are they playing country music on a Saturday night-but wait, people are dancing, people are singing along… THIS IS A THING. That was my first taste of “Little Lion Man” and I quickly boarded the Mumford & Sons train and got a copy of Sigh No More and fell in love like the rest of us.

Now its three years later and Mumford & Sons are internationally known on the microphone and releasing their sophomore effort Babel with lead single “I Will Wait”, a track full of banjo picking heavy drum energy that will not disappoint. Huzzah.

Babel is due September 15th.

disCOVER: Warsonic “White Blank Page (Mumford & Sons)”

“White Blank Page” is possibly my favourite Mumford & Sons track from their debut Sigh No More. Beautiful lyrics and beautiful music, Warsonic have captured this perfectly breaking it down into piano and synths.

disCOVER: Laura Marling & Mumford and Sons “Jolene (Dolly Parton Cover)”

We’re having a bit of a Laura Marling moment surfing through youtube, and we found this. The fantastic Jolene by Dolly Parton covered just brilliantly by Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons. Oh enjoy this one.

disCOVER: Alex Winston “The Cave (Mumford & Sons Cover)”

Alex Winston is a great new quirky American singer songwriter. There are a lot of them out there but we think Alex Winston still has a place. Here is her take of Mumford & Sons’ The Cave. (and we’ll throw in an original of hers, Choice Notes)
